STP Day 2!

I was having a beast of a time Saturday night with my ankles (I have a long standing issue with them) and was hobbling to the point of barely walking. Wasn't to concerned though, they usually come good when they warm up, and they did.

We opted for a later start and decided to actually sit down to a breakfast (and after all that they still didnt make me a waffle!). That meant the first 10 or 20 miles were pretty open without to many people to pass, which was refreshing after the constant crowds we passed the day before. As we started to roll by rest stops the crowds started to thicken up again, and before long we busted out "On your left" fast and frequent.

Everyone was feeling pretty good, so we actually finished the day with a little better average speed. As the day went on progressively we started messing around and attacking and pacelining since we didnt have to save the legs like we did yesterday.

Weather was great both days, and we finished up a great ride.. Can't wait till STP 2k7!

Memorable moments:

Tom and Sam hill sprinting each other in the first 20 miles of day 2, that's some confidence in your legs right there.

Kam talking to the animals on socks, to distract herself from her sore ass!

Arriving at 'The Bridge' near the back of the crowded line and attacking all the way up it on the double yellow ending up near the front of the pack.

Organizing into a paceline and hammering highway 30 after we got separated waiting for Josh to descend, only to find out he went by us while we were waiting for him.

Seeing how upset Kam got when I kept passing her on descents even when she was fully tucked. Gravity wins!

Josh asking if he could get off his bike when we passed the Welcome to Portland sign with about 8 miles to go. I think he was suffering a little on day 2, but to his credit he didnt really talk about SAGing.

Thanks to Mica and Robin for driving support vehicles, getting up at the crack of dawn and picking us up at the end of the rides.

Ride low point:
Getting off the plane and finding out my bike didn't arrive.. So mad at Alaska Airlines right now, it better turn up ok tomorrow morning...........
