Lessons for today, listen to your body..
So, I had aspirations to upgrade and do the century, i felt good after the metric last week with 5800ft climbing, so figured why not tackle the first century.. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, ended up putting in a reasonably solid metric instead.
Tip #1: Overslept the alarm by an hour and a half, I guess that was my body trying to say it needs more rest
Tip #2: Upset stomach, I woke up with my stomach feeling a little tender. Figured I'd still head over and see how i felt when i had a few miles under my feet.
Tip #3: Unable to keep any food in my stomach once i started, I guess on the bright side it really gives you an incentive to sprint to the next rest stop, heh..
So, the ride itself was pretty miserable, I under ate/drank at the rest stops since my stomach was so volatile when i did put food in it, which meant I was running on a low energy supply for the metric, and left trying to find a balance between bonking and other stomach issues.
A shame really because otherwise it was a great day, nice and sunny, tons of rest stops.. It was supposed to be rest stops every 20 and water every other 10, but they ended up having food at all of them. I rolled by a few, there was just to many, and I'm somewhat accustomed to the 20 mile spread on rest stops.
The course was pretty nice, partially covering some roads I did in a ride last year, and partially over new territory. The descent near the Gilroy Hot Springs was bordering on what I'd call technical in parts, which was fun, but kept the max speed low on the way down. Josh, I think we should do this climb/descent when you get here, you'd love it!
I guess next time I wake up feeling like I did today, I'll just write it off as a loss and get some more sleep.
