That's a lot of short yardage for a long distance swimmer! Was this a masters workout?

I swam in two open water races this summer, and loved them as well. The open water season in MN is pretty short, but I'm looking forward to improving at both the races next summer and maybe trying to find a few more in the area. My goal is to go under 2 hours in a 5 mile race. I missed it by :58 seconds this year. Ugh! I blame it on my inability to swim straight.

Background: swam in high school, almost 10 years ago now (yikes!), and then gave it up until about 2 years ago. In high school I swam short yardage and never did anything spectacular. I've been swimming daily for about a year, and the progress in that year has been astounding (thanks to Reed and his motivation). I surprise myself at almost every workout. I'm training harder now than I ever did in high school, and I'm heading back for the Alumni meet in January to test my chops against the new stars. I've been debating joining a masters team, but I like my pool and this forum has helped keep me motivated and improving. I do want to race again, though, so I might sign up and see what happens. Is masters worth it?
