preponderance of bike cops at various busy intersections seemed to keep cycling commuters orderly today. Watched as packs of cyclists made their way from red light to red light. Brought to mind the idea that compliance with red lights might make bike commuting more visible since it forces riders to bunch up at intersections, which is more noticeable than seeing that same number strung out along a road, blowing past red lights at their own whim.

In the elevator today, a suit asked me where I was riding in from.

"Belmont, just on the other side of the Cambridge line."
"oh, what's that? about 12 miles?"
"6.7 one way, actually."
"pretty safe ride, then?"

I just looked at him askance with one eyebrow perked up before replying, "uh ... about as safe as riding through downtown traffic can be, I suppose"
