I saw this guy ahead of me at the foot of the Longfellow Bridge in the standard casual commuter rig of backpack, gym shorts and ancient mountain bike with thick knobbies. As the light went green, I wondered if I'd pass him before we started up the bridge, but the fellow was a beast and I wound up chasing after him at 18 mph up the bridge and didn't catch him until well on the downward slope, as wind drag made the difference that my legs could not provide.

There's always someone else who can humble you.

Nice tailwind this evening ... almost made up for being cockblocked by the 72 bus on Concord Ave.
