ok, I guess that route gets disqualified.

Tried exiting the Charles River Path at Beacon and cutting across Beacon Hill (working in a climb up Mt. Vernon St. for fits and shiggles) but had atrocious luck with lights. Might consider adding more distance to make an earlier entrance to the river to avoid the traffic in Harvard Square.
