Full Ride Report at http://cris.livejournal.com/180719.html

Weather was cloudy and chilly when we arrived in P-town. As soon as we got our brevet cards signed and were 'officially' starting the brevet, the rain started. Rain continued for the next seven hours or so, off-and-on. Weather calmed down, but stayed overcast and chilly for the rest of the day. Wore double layers of lycra jersey with wool arm warmers and wool jersey on top with wind vest, but in retrospect, should've gone for full blown winter kit and put on the rain jacket, plus fleece booties.

Caught a cold somewhere between Hyannis and New Bedford and had some associated queasiness. Couldn't eat more than a hundred calories or so each hour without feeling terribly nauseous. Rode into New Bedford and Providence completely bonked and contemplated abandoning at Providence, since there was a commuter rail link home ... but DNF'ed last year's fleche, and DNF'ing twice is shameful. Besides, the team's motel reservation in Westfield was under my name.

Wound up shaking off the cold and getting my appetite back at Willington, and recovered to have a decent performance on the stages into Windsor and Westfield. Overall had a fun time, and the team was great. Total time on the bike was probably closer to 20-21 hours, so final moving average is more in the 12-13 mph range.

There is something seriously wrong with you and your kind.

Good job! Fuck me, it's gonna take all month to catch up on workout time!

spokenword says,

heh ... thanks, I think. A friend of ours dropped us off in Provincetown as the rain clouds rolled in and she just asked, "you're doing this for fun, right?"

As I mentioned to sequential in an earlier comment, my summer cycling plans are actually fairly light this year. May's going to be heavy, but after that, the weekends are all hiking and trekking and most of my bike time will just be commuting and getting around. The bar's not going to be set up that high for long, and from what I've seen, the other MeFi guys can put up some serious numbers once the weather gets nice.
