Got out early enough to experiment with taking the Charles River path (which has just been repaved). I knew that it was going to be longer but didn't know how much longer. It's also always been a mixed bag for me in the past. It's a longer distance and though there are no lights to stop you, the pavement is narrow and usually crowded, so it's rare that one can really fly along it.
I got out at the Leverett Circle which is always a bit of a traffic horror show. Next time might try leaving via one of the pedestrian bridges over to Beacon Hill or Back Bay.

word. I'm probably going to be taking it easy this summer, actually ... other plans and priorities more towards trekking and hiking than riding. My two big rides are in May, but I'll probably train up for the Deerfield (http://newhorizonsbikes.com/page.cfm?pageID=347) in August. I'll let you know, though, if I've got rides planned on a given weekend.
So, I see you're from Enfield. I'm doing a ride out that way from P-town on May 3rd, with three other friends. Recommend a place for dinner?
We'll be going on our way to Westfield and I've heard that the bridge over the Connecticut River is limited access and not open to bikes. Do you know if Windsor Locks is an easier crossing? I'd rather not have to detour north to Springfield.
