My first century, and it went well. I stopped for lunch for about an hour, so my time was actually much better than displayed. But it wasn't a race...more of a tour, with just over 100 people.

It was misty and wet for the first 40-50 miles, which wasn't a big problem, other than the sunglasses fogging up and covered with water. Visibility on the hills, especially down, was limited.

I cycled the last 50 miles on my own, almost entirely.

My right knee started hurting with ~20 miles to go, but fortunately a screaming tailwind carried me home. I was able to hold over 30mph with that tailwind for a few miles at a time! Right past San Simeon (Hearst Castle), and the elephant seals sprawled along the beaches.

There were a few spots between miles 50 and 70 where I just felt inspired by the locale (Pacific Coast highway) and the (lack of) traffic. I let out a holler or two. ;-)

Other than the right knee, and just general fatigue, I felt great.

On Saturday, I chose a refreshing nap instead of a ride on a beautiful day. So Sunday, I went for my last long training ride before Friday's century. Should have more than two powergels next time. Was a bit over 1:04 out, so more like 1:11 back. I didn't feel that much slower, so I'll blame the terrain.

40 is the longest I've gone in a year or so.
