This afternoon I took off into the strongest winds I've seen in some time. 45mph gusts with a strong 25 steady from the west north west.
I wasn't feeling great, but wanted to get out on the bike today b/c I knew Sunday was going to be busy with a party and karen working.
I headed out just to go around the lake and planned my route such that on the only unprotected flat part of the ride I would have the wind at my back. And boy did I! I hit 38mph on a flat and kept it there for about 3 miles. Cars didn't even try to pass. It was pretty fun. My HR was starting to soar and I knew that I had quite a few hills left before I got home so I turned it down and soft pedaled.
Once home I was happy I called it quits when I did. The hills seemed pretty hard today. I think b/c of my big effort with the wind. But this was also the first time I have taken these roads in reverse. Maybe it was just psychological. Who knows.
