Continuing our training. Probably could've done a third loop, but it was getting dark & we didn't bring our lights. Also, I need a field in here for number of bugs eaten (3, I think).

Zempf -

Have you done the MS-150 before? From your message to me, it sounded like you have not. If so, then be prepared to have a GREAT time. Over 6000 cyclists all headed the same direction means that you will never be alone. The rest stops have so much food that you can actually gain weight on the ride. Each rest stop has a band or DJ for music and tons of volunteers. Once in O.C. the finish area has tons more food, massages, and all the fun of the boardwalk.

Yes, the bridges over to O.C. are tough, especially right at the end of the first day, but you've already done them in training, so you are ahead of most everyone else.

Good luck!!

Neither I nor my girlfriend (she's katie on here) have done it before, but we're both really looking forward to it, as it sounds like about as much fun as a 150 mile bike ride could be. I should note that since I'm insane (and also it's the only bike I have), I'm riding it on a fixed gear, though I've put in enough mileage on that thing as this point that I'm not super worried about it (also, I have no qualms about flipping over to the freewheel side of my hub if I'm feeling busted).

Are you doing it again this year? If so, have fun! I don't think I'll be hammering at 35mph or anything, but I do think that 5-5.5 hours is a reasonable timeframe. I'm not going to push it though, I'll be happy just to finish. I'm already dreaming of how wonderful a post-ride massage is going to feel...

hey, there was a contingent who did the Pittsburgh MS150 on fixies, you might want to check out their pages/talk to them for any possible advice. Here's one of their writeups:

Good luck with the ride!
