plus to como

I must suddenly look either old or my age ... on franklin a woman in a car behind me at a light honkity honk honked and yelled - ma'am, ma'am ... get on the side of the road. GET ON THE SIIIDE of the ROOOAD (with much gesticulating).
I explained it was legal for me to be in the lane if there wasn't enough room on the side of the road (there was construction). She wasn't having it, but at least she called me ma'am.

Later on Raymond, car #1 pulled alongside car #2 and yelled at car#2 for driving too fast and almost hitting the "lady on her bike". I appreciated car#1's concern, but she had clearly been drinking. Car#2 yelled something at me and I'm convinced cars make people very crabby.

I couldn't agree more.

Especially if they don't know the laws.
We rode on the Midtown Greenway yesterday, and bikes have a stop sign at the intersections - yet the cars (that have already been sitting there after letting a previous group of bikers cross) honked at us to go! Dude, I have a stop sign - time for you to go now. Plus, traffic is coming from the other direction and they're not stopping.
I don't like crossing in front of cars - I'd prefer they not sit there and honk at me after I've stopped for my stop sign.

I *totally* agree about the stop signs for bikes mean ... bikes stop! Not cars with no stop signs! It's really annoying, especially because some cars stop and some don't so it becomes a frustrating mess of miscommunication.

however ...

I'm torn because it's nice that people are aware of bikers and are trying to be good people and do the right thing, and what if a rogue biker runs the stop sign - the car would do some serious damage. Also, the stop signs for bikes are really small and when approaching it from the side (as cars do), they're practically invisible.

Solutions?? Or will this just get better with time and awareness?
