OK, I take back what I said earlier about the patheticness of the recumbent trainer. Apparently, all you need is the right combination of effort level and work level (and I have no good idea what either of them measures). I doubled the effort level of last time, chose a more difficult course and work level, and it gave me a really nice workout. At the end it actually told me the effort level I chose corresponded to "heavy activity", so I suppose I chose wisely.
Also, Throwing Muses' Hunkpapa is precisely the right length for this particular activity. Must remember that.
