Well, I did it. Went out in the morning, and instead of catching the subway up to Central Park and running a few miles in there first, I just started at the Brooklyn Bridge, turned left at the end, and ran up the side of the island for 7.8 miles. Turned around at the Norwegian some-thing-er-other cruise ship. I had my phone, so I twittered that I was half way and sent a photo of where I was for encouragement. Ha!

The last couple of miles were the toughest, but I also find them to be the most interesting. My legs were hurting a lot by then, and I'm not sure if they're cramping or it's just muscle fatigue. I started to play a game with myself right before doing the last mile on the Brooklyn Bridge. I'd be shuffling along (in a running style that I have dubbed creeping, which is really just my 'oh god i'm tired run'), and I'd say to myself:
"This is not a pain from an injury. This is just tiredness. You can run through this. I does not hurt" I'd then proceed to run with a proper stride and ignore the aches. It was hard, because it did hurt, but I enjoy finding the reserve of energy and mental power that enables that.
Here's me at the end.

I had some trouble walking for the rest of the day, which sucked 'cause I had to go to work and could just sit at home and moan. Oh well. Glad I did it. Sad that based on this time, my predicted time is 5 hours and 10 minutes. I will still try and get between 4.30 and 5 though. Achievable I think.
Graphs here, including achieving my goal of running 200 miles in 16 weeks. Did it with 40 days to spare.

Congratulations on a LONG run. Great job. NYCM, here she comes.
Thanks, Lonn. I'm having a bit of trouble envisioning myself actually running that far (marathon I mean), but I guess that's what the next few weeks are for!
How long will you and your friend be in NYC for? We should catch up while you're here.
Brad and I get in later Friday evening and then head out Monday late afternoon. Yea, it would be fun to connect. I'll keep in touch as time gets closer. Good luck w/ the next several weeks - this is the fun part. I mean that. You are now in good shape to tackle the last part - and you'll look back and think, "Wow, I've come a long way."
