For the second time in as many weeks, I've had what I would call a fantastic long run. Fairly constant pace the whole way - except for the hill in harlem - and you can spot it easily on my nike+ graph (link below).
Picked a good time to go (late-ish afternoon) so the only place I got any real steam was on the east side of the Jackie O reservoir. I did the big 6 loop, but in the middle threw in a quick lap around the reservoir. It's dirt and kind of easier on the knees, but also fairly uneven at the moment. All the thunderstorms have created some dozzies of potholes, and they were full of water today.
The last mile and a half was particularly enjoyable. When you know you're nearly done and don't need to conserve any energy, so you just let it go. There's a long slow rise at the bottom of the park and I just powered up it. Good feeling.
Forgot to wear my knee straps tho. They were a bit sore, but not too bad.
Good run. Hazzah!

Oh, and I remembered that last week on my run, I ran past a group of people standing in the middle of the path point giant lenses at a tree. Pale Male was sitting in a tree letting tourists take his photo. For some reason I thought we only saw him in spring when he was nesting. I remember when they tried to knock his roost on the co-op on 5th avenue and the public outcry. All that love over a hawk. He was pretty tho...gotta admit.

Nice job Janeen - it sure feels good to have a run like that - especially with almsot no pain! I looked up the half-marathon in Indy - I guess that sounds like a good place to run since what else are you going to do in India-no-place in summer? Truthfully, I think your idea of doing a Half is really smart - it is so much easier to be motivated to run hard under race conditions. Congrats again on a great run today.
Thanks. I appreciate the encouragement!
I figured I'd never been to Indianapolis (had to look it up on a map of course, I'm such a foreigner sometimes) and it's been a while since my last adventure. So Indy it is.
