Wow, what a run. It went very well. Knocked off 16 minutes from my last year's performance - much less hobbling along during the last 10 miles cut down the average pace. Jon, Erik, Joe, Lauri, Doug all did very well. Perfect day for a race on a perfect trail with perfect friends. Perfect.

You looked pretty good crossing the finish line, congrats.

I felt like a complete loser for not being in the race, but next year, next year! I did my fastest 10 mile run ever, yesterday, whopping 9:00 miles!

Nice run! And I took an easy day while you ran a 50K trail run. :)

John, thanks! Yes, you were correct. this seemed like a confirmation that the training regime is truly paying off. All other indicators seemed to point that way but I needed this to give me the confidence to trust what I perceived. Please do try to be there next year. You would really love the run.

Jake, I was happy that you were there but when I first saw you I have to admit I was so totally out of it that I was having trouble figuring out why you were there and if it was really you. It was on the way home, after lots more oxygen in my brain, that I remembered that you ran this with us last year. As I said to John above, I hope that you are there again next year. I know you know how beautiful a run it is. It must have been very hard to watch people run a race that you've run before. That being said, I have to tell you, your support was very, very meaningful and meant a lot to me. I've never had the kind of attention I got that day - it made me feel so privileged.

Robin, thanks for the note. Ah, there were several moments when I thought, "Why am I doing this?" Taking an easy day is very important and I have wasted a lot of training this past year by not taking those moments to let my body recover and get the benefit of training. I hope that I'm on a new program - we will see... BTW, you need to find an excuse to come out here and spend a few days running with us -- I promise that we will take good care of you and give you some great running memories!

Lonn, no problem, understood! The Monday following the MRTR I did, a lady I work with (daily) asked me how the race went. I asked her how she heard about it.

She laughed and said that she was there at the finish line, she handed me fruit and a sports drink.

I had no recollection of even seeing her, let alone her interacting with me, everything was a blur. Fortunately her hubby is an ultra vet, so she understood. It was one of the more bizarre things in my life.
