Warm up and cool down miles. Mile repeats w/ Jon.

Felt good mentally/emotionally today. Slower miles felt very good (about 8:05 pace) but repeat miles just weren't fast. Quads felt tired still from Friday's race. It was a good workout but proves that there is always room for more strength and endurance.

6:15, 6:10, 6:10, 6:16 (400 jog rests in between)

I'll be arriving Ashland very late Thurs. I volunteered to help Tom & Marilyn with set up on the mountain early Fri. afternoon. Then I'm going into town for a few hours. They may want me to transport race packets back up the mountain after packet pick-up closes at 7 P. I drive a red Ford Ranger with a shell, or a green Diamondback mountain bike. Try to remember my cell.

i don't know if i'm racing or enjoying at SOB. be happy just to finsih within cutoffs. would like to finish w a 'respectable' time- whatever that means. always have to taper in order to protect my right achilles (which is my achilles). some things i write are written because i enjoy words as much as running.

John -
Ah, I tapered today even though I didn't really mean to (slept right through the 3:30 alarm and woke up just in time to get to my book-study group at 5:45. Ah well, maybe that is best. Yea, my A. T. is a bit ticklish also. I just found out that a couple friends from Eugene are running SOB but do not want to race it. They are very accomplished runners but both feel "not quite prepared" and/or a couple dozen other excuses. If the plan holds up (which I hope it does) we will head out as though it is going to be fun (what a concept) and try to just enjoy the time on legs. They will end up being respectable on finishing but I think it will be 15-20 minutes slower than normal. I think it will be fun to try that out and, if in the end, I feel good, I might try to pick up the pace on a few of the final miles. I've always felt so lousy by the end that all I could do was slog my way home. Anyway, we can discuss ideas and plans when down there - it seems like there are some really good options. These guys are real gems. BTW, I definitely noticed that you write well - I love to write - I just wished I had something important to say.
