Went out on a cool and very windy afternoon to do a Tempo workout. My plan called for 30 minutes and I tried a new route that was all right hand turns. It worked well and I was able to get 30 straight minutes of Tempo in at the target HR and RPM. The wind was out of the NE, which is odd and it it meant that the first two legs were into the wind and it sucked. I was in a 53x17 or 16 going about 21mph, On the other two legs, I was flying. In face, I could have used an 11 - yes Matt Tanner, an ELEVEN tooth cog. I only needed it today because the wind speed was keeping me from staying in the desired RPM range. I was cruising at 30 in the 53x12 at 165bpm...most other days, it would be about 195bpm....nice.
