Met up with Glenn and Brandon for a cold 3 hour ride. Temp was 28/20 but the sun was out and the wind was minimal. We rode out with the wind, contrary to our usual method.

I wasn't feeling great today. I spend most of the ride flirting with the "red line" for the EM range. I was rarely ever below 155 and spent a significant amount of time a tick or two above the red line. I didn't feel horrible, but just felt like I was working harder than I should have been for the pace we were doing.

I had disruptive sleep the last two nights, and add to that the fact that this is my "big week" in the cycle, and that is probably 90% of the reason.

I came home, took in a bottle of Accelerade and a large bottle of water, took a hot shower and ate homemade from scratch pizza.

Tomorrow is another 3 hour ride and the last for this week. Next week is a rest week with a whopping 4.5 hours of riding in the plan. I do have a Field Test on Wednesday morning, which I am most definitely not looking forward to.

Are you doing the Charmichal Plan?

I had to laugh at your one goal of "earning your cat 2" I started back last year after 3 years on the couch, and when i went to renew my liscense, i was suprised to find i was still a cat 3. I was loathe to give that up, as i worked so hard to get there, that I decided to keep it, and just get my ass kicked into shape
I'm impressed with the volume you're doing too!. keep it up!

Yeah, I started the Carmichael "classic" program a few months ago after reading his book, "The Ultimate Ride". It's one of the best, most concise and relevant books on training. Anyway, I raced Cat 3 road and Cat 2 track since 1990 and dropped off the face of the cycling world in 1998 from burnout. I returned to riding in 2004 and began my assault on a "return to racing forrm" last year. I am hoping to be in good racing shape by spring, and so far, I feel like I am on track. I did a couple of track events last summer, still as a Cat 2, and it was pretty apparent that I was no longer worthy, so I downgraded when I renewed my license a few weeks ago and figure it'll give me something to shoot for - try to "earn it back".

Are you doing Carmichael as well?

Good luck to you and keep up the good work!

Cool. Yeah, i'm sorta doing it. I'm not subcrisbing to his stuff b/c of money, but basically follwing his plan/ideas. When I used to race, I was pretty young, and it seemed like i could just ride as much as I wanted to, and make gains, but now, i know I need more structure.
