To Woodside- Distance 12.00 miles
- Time 01:00:00
- Max Speed 24.00 mph
- Average Speed 12.00 mph
My legs were sore all morning, so I decided I would make this a "recovery ride" and just go easy for about 30 miles. I got about 2 miles into it, and I was marvelling at what a gorgeous day it was (high 80s, saw the temp reading on my cyclometer go as high as 95 once) when I really started to cramp up. By mile 6 I was in such agony that I had to turn the bike around and practically coast home. It was bad.
I ran out of my favorite energy drink, and was using a bottle of Powerbar Endurance Formula powder. I rode all last summer on the stuff, but had switched to Spiz this year and was much happier with it (I have 2 more tubs of spiz ordered already). The last few times I have used the Powerbar stuff I have cramped up bad (they were when I was running), and according to some of the forums a lot of people can't handle the really high doses of sodium in drinks like that. Spiz has more types of electrolytes, which is one reason I chose it.
When my dad was hit by a truck last year, in the hospital they said he was dangerously low on several electrolytes. At the time, he was just drinking the PowerBar stuff as well.
So moral of the story? No more PowerBar drink for me.

When I saw 12 miles I thought, "that's too short for a ride. He must've run that far."
And then I saw 12 mph average.
You were *so* almost my hero.
Almost.
Haha. I wish I was running that fast. :)
