"To Thee Zion"

Hard to believe that this was only the second time this year I've climbed Zion Road, but 'tis true. What started as an easy after work spin turned into a hammerfest when I got on the Higginsville race course, hammered up the steep hill over the RR tracks and then jammed down the other side, hitting 35 mph in a 53 x 13 gear. My legs felt good on the climbs, so the massage and day off must have worked. I ambled over to Zion Road and proceeded to climb this beast, which isn't easy, but it's laid out well. As far as climbs go, it's probably easier than Stanton Mountain (not as steep) and what's nice is the beginning section is easier as is the summit. This of course means the most effort is in the middle section and it was there I was suffering in the 39 x 19 (standing) or 21 (sitting).

What was good was that I kept a good pace all the way up and had plenty of juice at the top to gear up and increase my speed. Now just do that 4x in a row and I have some chance of surviving the GMSR in September.

Weather- it was like pea soup out there tonight, 82 degrees, but 74% RH , with a dewpoint of 73. Silly me I forgot to wear gloves (big mistake!)...

Anyway, now it is thundering and all the moisture will come down as rain as the approaching cold front slams into the heat and humidity.
