Another gray day here. I had a ton of work to get done, and couldn't slide out for a ride early. It splattered a bit of rain around lunchtime, and I'd pretty much written off riding today.

Then this afternoon I realized I won't be able to ride tomorrow, so I decided to risk getting rained on, and going to do some hill intervals since I could destroy my legs today, and have all of tomorrow to rest and recover :)

I delivered some mail across town, and since the sky seemed OK, i decided to do my fav city route in reverse on the way to the hill I wanted to do my intervals on.
The ride was great, I was feeling really good, strong, the wind was pretty minimal and the temp and humidity although high, suited my mood perfectly! I got to Leacock, and headed for the bottom. I was being paced by a Mustang with a grinning kid in it as we blasted down @ 72km/h/45mph. Lucky for him there were no radar traps, since i legally can't get a speeding ticket on my bike.

I screeched to a halt at the bottom, and I will take this moment to comment on how absolutely freaking amazing the Campy brakes/pads/wheels work to stop me QUICKLY!! My eyes felt like they were coming out of the sockets, I swear. lol I started up the hill, and was able to keep a great tempo in teh gear I started with, finished strong with a sprint to the stop sign at the top. Kept going to the top end of the street and turned back for the bottom again. This time I decided to not pedal at all, I needed teh recovery time! I still managed to hit 66km/h on that descent. Back up again, this time a couple of people working in their front yards took the time to let me know that i'm crazy going up and down the hill like this. hah
I did the same thing one more time, then rejoined the North Loop and lifted the pace for the trip home, to boost my avg speed for the ride. I was able to hold a pace of 39km/h/24mph for the final 20minutes of riding!

All in all, a great day in the saddle, glad to have got out, the rain started 40mins after I got home.

deantelman says,

You must have the dual pivot brakes! And yes, they stop well. My first bike in the early 90s had Campy brakes and they didn't stop worth a @$%$. Once I got Chorus 98, I discovered what it's like to have brakes that actually work! Glad to hear that you ride Campy. We may be outnumbered by the S-bikes, but what do they know! Campy rules.

Just replaced the drivetrain on my Specialized with the Record 10 sp crankset, new Chorus shifter, derailleur, cogs, chain etc. It's amazing what a new drivetrain can do for an older bike- feels like new again.
