Well, the decision was reached at 8:30 in Nigel's driveway, around the Lake it is!

Nigel, Darren and I set out to skirt the shores of Lake Simcoe to find out just how big is this body of water we live on.

It was a cool, overcast morning, it actually looked pretty threatening as i made my way to Nigel's. The forecast promised no rain, and for one they were right! It was actually the perfect weather for a long day in the saddle. Cool, and no sun until we were just getting back into Barrie. Such a perfect "pick me up" as we were getting home, completely spent.

We covered about 230kms together, the extra for me, was to Nigel's and back home after the ride this evening. We maintained an average speed of 30+km/h, pretty good for 2 guys (Nigel & I) who have never ridden more than 130kms EVER previously.

Not too many hills on the ride, since we stayed as close to the water as possible. This also lead to several funny moments as we hit dead ends, or crossed the same set of railway tracks about 8 times! We sent about 30kms riding along the shoulder of busy 2 lane highways, but for the most part it was sideroads with little, or no traffic.
Darren started to fade with about 35kms to go, but Nigel hooked him up with some powergels and we were able to tow him home.

I stayed away from anything other than lots of water, 1 bottle of gatorade, and 1 bottle of powerade. I also ate 2 Nature Valley Dry Granola bars on the road. We stopped in Jackson's Point for lunch, after 4hours and 20mins of riding. That took about an hour and 20minutes. Too long, and definitely something we'll either bring with us, or find a faster place to eat at the next time we go out. Nigel ate several powergels, and drank only gatorade and cytomax bottles, and Darren ate Powerbars, powergels and was about 75% Gatorade, and 25% water. I definitely had the most energy left at the finish, i was able to sprint uphill at 50+km/h for the win haha

We've decided to do a 100+km ride every Saturday until it gets too cold, so it will be interesting to see how many places we can visit, since it's clear that we can make it virtually anywhere around us and back in a day :)

Wow! What a great ride, congrats. That's a really good sign when you have lots of energy left at the end of 8 hours in the saddle. Were you able to ride your new bike?

100+ km every week huh? Looks like it's time for me to step it up again :) Keep it up, you are doing great!

I was able to use the Bianchi, and it was awesome. I did some more fine tuning with the seating position the day before, and I am sure it played a role in making this such an enjoyable ride :)

I am still in awe at how relatively easy it was to do such a long ride, the company I was with had a lot to do with it also! Nigel and Darren are super nice, easy going guys who love to ride too.
