a great Sunday afternoon ride. Slept in too late to have enough time to eat for the morning ride, but Nigel and I went out for a tour this afternoon.

It was a really windy day, but I was actually feeling pretty strong considering yesterday's long ride/effort.

We toured out into Innisfil where there are a few nice steep hills, and a couple long grinders. I used them for sprint intervals and really went hard, hitting a new personal high wattage, of 1452!

I wonder how i'll feel tomorrow, not that it matters, I'm working onsite all week, and won't be able to ride at all :(

The plus side is that I'm going to be able to buy a cross bike and a TT frame when i'm done!!

You are the mileage monster, you need a break anyway! You're riding, what, 350-400 km/week?? And it's September, racing season is over....

I get a break this week to, after the 150 miles this weekend I have a 3 day business trip in Wash. DC, so no riding until Thursday ;-(

correction, Road Racing season is over.

the Cross season however, begins the first weekend of October, and runs into December!

a quick scan of my ride calendar shows my avg mileage over the past 15weeks is 407kms. The past 4 weeks my avg has been 419kms/week.

I hate having to take forced rest days, hopefully I'll be able to squeek in a ride somewhere this week. I might even consider riding in the rain to the location to get in some saddle time.

life would be so much easier if work didn't get in the way of training.

don't feel bad about taking a few days off, you deserve them. you have been putting in such great riding that you won't lose any fitness. you'll probably feel a lot better when you do get back on the bike.

forced recovery is a hard thing to accept. i'm anxious to get back to training. i wanted to ride my bike yesterday (the day after my race) but luckily bad weather forced me to stay inside. that, plus the fact that i could barely walk normally :)

Greg Lemond says "recovery is just as important as training"

That's how you build fitness (and muscle).

Cross looks like fun, but I need a break from competition.
