Out for a beautiful Friday afternoon ride. I was not feeling fresh at all, but Nigel took the day off work, so i couldn't deny teh rare opportunity to ride.
We decided to do a relatively flat route, but we'd finish with a nice grinding climb at the end of the day.
I had some fun playing with the powertap, doing sprints, and odd stuff, trying to understand the relationships between all the numbers it displays to me.
I can really see how much energy is saved by drafting when i watch it, in most cases it was about a 30% reduction in the amount of work i had to do to maintain a given speed. pretty cool stuff!
Nigel is really getting strong, he pulled away from me a few times and there was little i could do to match him. If he were a smaller guy, good god he'd be ridiculously fast.
It was a nice ride, but i just about bonked on the final climb at the end. Tomorrow is a rest day for me, so I was OK with bonking, however i was able to endure and push it home with good speed/power.
I've been using Cycling Peaks software to analyze and view teh data from the Powertap. Pretty incredible software, certainly doesn't leave any variable to the imagination!!
