I feel like a squatter!
Posted over 2 years ago by firepileI'm barely a runner at this point, but surrounding myself with people who run like mad is probably the best way to keep myself at it, so I'm going to lurk around here if you don't mind! :)

Firepile: Are you kidding? I've been stoking this campfire for nearly a week now by myself. All the smores are gone and I feel llike a blimp so its good to have some company, even if all you want to do is to pull up a log and chew the fat (so to speak). With this weather I think all the Oregon runners have headed to the beach - well, at least the smart runners have. Have you noticed the runner (Eric P) who goes by the nom de plume of espete01? Do you know him - from Eugene? Maybe we could just gossip about him until he responds. Based on his miles and times, he's going to do well at the Portland Marathon. At the same time, he has a wife and two kids so I'm wondering if they're about ready to beat him up for spending all of his time running?
Haha, I don't know him, but I have glanced at some of his runs. I look with envy on all you folks that get in such long runs!
In my experience, everyone with children engages in endurance sports to get away from them! So I'm intrigued by your suggestion that you want to actually bring a family to these runs! :)
(I don't have any experience with such things, but if I did have kids I'd definitely make them run with me - those little people have more energy than it's right for anyone to have!)
Hi-
I'm a newby runner/swimmer thinking about training for a triathlon. I'm in Creswell, and really need to find some good running routes in the city.
Thanks for starting this group!

Welcome aboard J(eremiah). If you want to contact me at my e-mail address (lrobertson@peak.org), I will put you on the Creswell Running Club e-mail list. CRC isn't really much of a formal group but it is a band of runners that get a few folks together, usually once a week. We run Camas Swale, Cloverdale, Bear Creek, Enterprise Road, etc. Great folks - who you probably already know.
Guys - here's the scoop - I was competetive in high school 25 years ago. I got fat and lazy over time and more recently got tired of my wife and kids reminding me of this reality. So last winter I started running again. I'm old, but I'm slow... I run usually between 5-7 in the morning so I don't take time away from them. It is so rewarding to shed the pounds, build endurance have some goals in front of me. It is also rewarding to inspire my kids to establish good health habits.
Hey, for those looking for a group of cohorts - the Leukemia & Lymphyoma Society's Team in Training is a great way to get some coaching, have some accountability and build some base.
I just found this group - glad I did. I look forward to getting to know y'all.
Eric - your story sounds amazingly familiar. The only real difference is that I never was an athlete so this is all kind of new to me. My cross-country coach used to announce, "O.K., Lonn is finished, we can load up the bus, everyone must be done." Kind of a sad commentary about my running - but true. Now that I'm old, and there are fewer old men running, I actually feel competitive (in a Walter Middy sort of way) - it is kind of fun! It will be interesting to see if your kids take up the challenge. My kids have chosen not to - but maybe as they get older, some of this stuff will come back to them and they will put on a pair of running shoes. To life!
