1000 baby!

Posted 7 days ago by mathowie

Congrats to mikepop and asbestos_mcpinto for being the first to hit 1,000 miles so far this year (I'm about a week away from hitting it myself).

In all the years I've been riding, I've never actually done 1,000 in a year (usually I ride 600-800 miles between May and October or so) and I'm really happy to be hitting my mark around mid-May. Hoping to get up to 2,500-3,000 by the end of the year.

Congrats everyone! I hit 1k for the year April 26. It's amazing to reach the milestone. Still missing logs for some days in February and March, so We Endure lags behind my actual mileage for the year.

Race to 2k? ;-)

Wow! Comparing with last year, it took me until June 18th - just after the Trek Across Maine miles (180) - to break 1,000. At this time last year, I had 461 miles. That's what forging through the Maine winter will get you :)

I am also excited to be closing in on 5,000 miles since I took up the bike again in May 2006. Looking at it now, I should be able to hit it before May 23rd, which was when I started.

Congratulations! A week ago, I had thoughts of trying to beat you to it, but the gap is still pretty big :)

And 5,000 miles in your first two years is pretty awesome too, mikepop.

I always liked abiding by the maxim of 'your bike should cost no more than half of your yearly mileage.'

It's both an encouragement to ride more and to upgrade as one goes further ;)

and congrats on forging through those Maine winters, mikepop, it makes the summer miles taste so much better.

It sure does. I was riding in the dark for the first time in a while last night thinking, "hmm why does this feel so different? - Oh yeah, I'm not freezing my face off!"
