3 days off has me falling a bit behind. I think this may not be my month..
On the plus side, we've got 26 people out riding, which ain't half bad I guess..
Geez. I suck :(
(and I'm away for a couple of weeks too, so..)
Thanks for the update. And --
Woo-hoo! I'm not-last! And maybe next week, I'll be even not-laster!
Well, I'm nowhere near a bicycle, but I can see that it isn't stopping any of you...
Bring on the TTC strike (while I'm in Halifax)!
I should say that I am torn here. The idea of being neck-and-neck with Mr. McPinto actually is encouraging me to ride my bike a little more often, just to try and build a better lead. But, if I really wanted to win, I'd just post all of my mileage from the two weeks in April before I signed up. So, what's preferable? A sporting handicap or full disclosure?
Is this through Saturday? I didn't put in my Sat. mileage until Monday...and that included my longest ride ever! :) (not much compared to some of y'all, but a big deal for me.)
First 400 mile months of the year I think. I could have been there.. I won't be there next month either though, I don't think I'll be peddling again until May 9th or so.. ARGH!!
As for how the totals work...
(This is a little long, but I've been meaning to explain how this thing works somewhere, so I might as well get it typed up.)
Personally, I think everyone should be posting their miles ASAP. Obviously for some that will be a couple of days, but if you can't get your updates in once every four days or so, you should take the milage hit and spend a little more time in front of the computer :)
On the other hand, this really is run purely on the honour system, and I get the feeling a lot of people like it that way. I mean, I've had thoughts about measures that could 'encourage good behavior', but..
So ya, updates are whenever I get around to running the script, and for week 3 that was late Friday night. I try to always update a few hours after the 7th, 14th, and 21st and the last day of the month, but I'm sometimes a little late, and you can see that in the notes. I'm more than happy to run a total for an individual, and even post it in thread, but I don't want to rearrange the rankings.. Except for extenuating circumstances, once it is posted it is done.
Oh ya, and very occasionally I will run the totals but I won't be able to post it for a day or two, I think that happened for the week 3 update this time, so it might be extra confusing :P
How the script works
-----------------------------
The totals are generated by looking at the first page of activities for each member. If there are any activities for the month in question on the first page it records and then goes on to look back into older pages until it finds an activity from the previous month. Then the recorded activities are totaled, and what you see is the result.
This makes it possible to run totals into the first couple of days of the next month, but right now I can't go back to an arbitrary month. As soon as an active member has enough new activities to fill a page, it is impossible to get a total for the previous month for that member.
Thanks for the info! It's good to know how this works. :) It's a great incentive for me to get in a little extra riding outside of my commute.
And I'm just boggled to have finished the month at #11. Can hardly even imagine doing 400 miles in a month.
"As soon as an active member has enough new activities to fill a page, it is impossible to get a total for the previous month for that member."
Is it possible to go to the user homepage (http://www.weendure.com/user/mikepop) and scrape the number listed for "Last Month: Cycling:" to use at the week 4/final monthly number?
This way people could have a day or two to enter their last day of the month miles, and you can run the job and get accurate totals without having to worry about how much of the following month's activities are on the member activity pages.
Well, sure.. The monthly cycling total doesn't include trainers though..
For now, I'll hold off on the monthly total for another day or so (maybe put a provisional result listing, and then come back 48 hours later...).
