Ok. Let's try this again. Not doing ironman the last two years so I can focus more time on my family and our son (now 18 months old). Great decision on my part, but I went to the other extreme and stopped training for almost two years. Had a lot of trouble getting motivated to run/ride/swim when there wasn't an ironman on the calendar (I usually do 2 or 3 a year). Sort of a weird reaction considering how important fitness is to me. Anyway, FeGirl sent me a note that I have a race coming up (Big Kahuna Half IM) and shouldn't I be training. She's right! That post and finding out last Friday that our second baby is going to be a boy (!!) got me in gear. Since last Friday I've worked out 4 times. Nothing special--except it is and I'm ok with that. I have to start somewhere. I'm back out having fun and getting my chops back. Not sure if I'll make the Big Kahuna (I'll only do it if the trip to Santa Cruz sounds fun to my wife), but I'm officially training again. Just to be fit, more mentally stable, healthier, etc. Can't believe I dropped out of fitness completely the last two years, but I'll try to concentrate on really being back this time. I don't usually share stuff like this online, but I started this group for a reason and maybe posting about my own struggle will help someone else find their way back.
