2007 is the first year of the Eugene Marathon!
The 2007 Inaugural Eugene Marathon will be a race to remember. This fast, flat, scenic course will keep runners interested and motivated from start to finish. Runners will prepare and energize for the race at the home of three Olympic trials, eight NCAA championships and countless national and world record breaking efforts - Hayward Field. The 26.2 mile race will start on Agate Street, in front of Hayward Field and continue up through Hendricks Park and past the legendary Steve Prefontaine's Memorial. Quickly return back to Agate Street and cross the first of three foot bridges over the beautiful Willamette River. Runners will enjoy approximately 10 miles of scenic river trails and go in and out of six different parks along their way to finishing at the University of Oregon's Autzen Stadium.

Maybe a hilly start will keep me from running too fast at the beginning. I have got to learn not to do that, it's 26.2 miles, take your time!
I'm so out of shape I should be signing up for the Kid's Run instead of the 5k!
In fairness to the course, the new official map looks like the race does not go up to Pre's Rock. There is a 70 feet elevation gain within the first mile and then another one at mile 5 - other than that, it is flat. Should be a fast course - and the competition fierce.
I saw many groups of runners and walkers obviously getting their long runs in this morning on the river trails in Eugene. I'm really looking forward to the event even though I run most of the course quite often. I hope it gets exposure and is well attended.
There is plenty of time still but I think the half marathon will have to wait. You won't be alone in that huffin and puffin 5k firepile.
Oh damn calodecrus! You've *publicly* committed to the 5k! You realize this means there is no turning back? [evil laughter]
...adding name to the list (Still think it's weird there is no 10K).
@espete01
Those runners were probably the folks from Joe Henderson's group from the Eugene Running Company.

I don't think that Joe minds folks training for marathons doing the Sunday morning runs with the group (sundays 8:30am sharp at ERC)
Thanks Per!
As a side perk the 5K and kids runs will benefit the Science Factory Children's Museum and Planetarium (the marathon ends between Autzen stadium and the Science Factory. http://www.sciencefactory.org
OK folks we're just a couple of weeks out from tapering for the marathon - are you ready?
What a great event for Eugene! The weather was perfect, the course and crowds were familiar and good, and the event was fun. Kudos to the organizers and thanks to the many volunteers who made it possible.
I got to watch a bit of the marathon from my apartment - I think the part that borders on my yard was around mile 18, so people were looking a bit demolished by then. Of course, then I realized how many of those people were 60 year old women, and I cheered them all on double. Stellar job all around.
